Graduate Scholarships

Each year, the Agnese Nelms Haury Program in Environment and Social Justice supports one Native American/First Nations Oxford-Haury Scholar and up to six UA Carson-Haury Scholars.

Carson-Haury Scholars

Up to six Carson-Haury Scholarships are awarded annually to University of Arizona PhD, PhD-bound or masters students whose interdisciplinary studies further knowledge and awareness of natural environments and the interactions between environments and people. The UA Institute of the Environment administers the program.

In Carson-Haury Scholars, we seek students who show initiative, pursue innovation and widely share information about their work. It's our hope that through their problem-solving and ability to communicate science to a broad audience, they will become leaders who advance collaborative solutions to environmental challenges across the public, private, NGO and academic sectors.

Providing $5,000 per award, the Carson Scholars program has channeled more than $300,000 to 60+ students to date. Applications are due each September with awards starting the following January.

Native American/First Nations Oxford-Haury Scholar

This one-year scholarship for indigenous students from the United States or Canada supports studies in a master's program at Linacre College of the United Kingdom's Oxford University. The award covers tuition, living costs and associated visa/travel costs for one recipient each year.

Eligible students apply by indicating their interest in the Oxford-Haury scholarship in the personal statement of their Oxford applications, which are due each January for classes starting in September. No other paperwork is required, and Oxford chooses each year's scholar.
