With great honor and respect, the Agnese Nelms Haury Program, which is part of Arizona Institute for Resilience at The University of Arizona, announces its 2026 Haury Indigenous Resilience Leadership Award Recipients. This award recognizes exceptional contributions to Indigenous environmental resilience and respectful tribal engagement.
 
2026 Award Recipients -  The Navajo Nation Department of Water Resources Library Preservation Project (NNDWRLPP) Team - are:
 
  • Mr. Maurice Upshaw, Team Project Manager and GIS Supervisor, Water Management Branch, Navajo Nation Department of Water Resources,
  • Ms. Jessica Ugstad, Head of Collections, Daniel Cracchiolo Law Library at UA James E. Rogers College of Law, and
  • Ms. Teresa Miguel-Stearns, Associate Dean, Daniel Cracchiolo Law Library at UA James E. Rogers College of Law.
     
The awardees will be celebrated on April 8, 2026 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the University of Arizona James E. The Agnese Nelms Haury Program (the Haury Program) is a University of Arizona-embedded philanthropic program established in 2014 with what was at that time the largest bequest ever received by the University. The Haury Program is governed by an external Donor Advised Fund Board. Since 2020, the Haury Program has been focusing on advancing Indigenous resilience, especially environmental resilience and water work. The Haury Indigenous Resilience Leadership Awards were conceived in 2020, and honor people and programs that advance Indigenous resilience goals.
