In Solidarity

June 8, 2021

Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation members are mourning the finding of a mass grave containing the remains of 215 children on the grounds of Kamloops Indian Residential School. The news is devastating.

We at the Haury Program deplore the history of removing Native and Indigenous children involuntarily from their families, both here and elsewhere, and the legacy of untold grief and pain it inflicted.

The investigation into this latest discovery in Kamloops thus must grapple with and insist upon accountability for the moral atrocities inflicted on these families.

The history of this and similar atrocities also must continue to be illuminated, uniformly condemned as a gross violation of fundamental human rights, and never again repeated —anywhere.

In solidarity,

The Haury Program
